Surf Life Saving Central Coast Junior Activities Resources provide the relevant information for clubs Nipper programs. Nipper programs are incredibly important to the education of your young lifesavers.

Junior Activities Chair (JAC)

Junior Activity Chairs are volunteers who work closely with the club management team to plan and coordinate the program of Junior Activities, including Nippers for the club each season. They work closely with Age Managers and assist them to carry out their roles effectively.

Each season, JAC training courses are rolled out by SLSNSW which is now a mandatory requirement for all JAC’s. In August, prior to each season SLSCC holds a JAC Conference Day which equips JAC’s with all information for the season ahead. SLSCC has created a JAC Timeline to assist in running a Nippers program at your club.

Age Manager & Age Manager Assistant

Age Managers are the volunteers who deliver the Nippers program to children aged between 5-13 years. They create a fun, safe learning environment while developing future lifesavers through the building of knowledge, skills and confidence. Age Managers should reference the Age Guides in planning their weekly program. Please refer to SLSNSW/ Junior Activities/ Junior Development Program Resources for guides and other useful resources.

Age Manager and Age Manager Assistants are required to complete Age Manager Course on the SLS Members Portal when they become an Age Manager. Each year, a short Skills Maintenance update will need to be completed. SLSNSW will also provide Age Manager training Zoom. This ensure that all Age Managers and Age Manager Assistants are aware of the requirements to fulfill the role.

Rookie
Co-ordinator

The Rookie Co-ordinator works closely with the U13 and U14 age group in your club. They support the Rookies with patrolling and Rookie Programs within club and Branch. They work in partnership with Age Managers and Patrol Captains.

The role of the Rookie Co-ordinator will engage, develop and retain the Rookies. They will prepare the Rookies with skills and experience to transition them from Nippers to active patrols, guiding them to achieve further awards such as Bronze Medallion and IRB Crew to be the future lifesavers of SLS.
