Graham Love (Lovey)

Graham or “Lovey” was such a great person and integral part of Avoca Beach and Surf Life Saving Central Coast in so many ways. His contribution to Surf Life Saving over the years has been outstanding.

He started his involvement in the lifesaving movement firstly at Cronulla SLSC where he completed his Bronze and after a brief stint at Copacabana joined Avoca Surf Club. His contribution to both Avoca and the Central Coast Branch didn’t go unnoticed as he was inducted as a Life Member of Avoca and also Surf Life Saving Central Coast.

He held multiple positions over the years at SLSCC and was Branch Secretary for many years along with Branch President from 1982 – 1986 and 1988 – 1990. At Avoca SLSC he was the long-time Club Secretary. He also had a passion for Surf Sports. Over the years he managed Club, Branch and Australian Touring Teams and in doing so he made many friendships. The trips and holidays which stemmed from these events have left many treasured memories for many Surf Life Saving members.

Lovey was always the “go to” person for any history of the Club and its members. His knowledge will be as sorely missed as he will be.

Lovey was always a regular at Avoca SLSC. He and others from his era would meet every Friday for a coffee catch up and have a yarn of days gone by. I’m sure there would be talk of funny money nights, dress up parties, Sunday Sippers in the Green Room, progressive dinners, Presentation Nights, trips to carnivals and many more.

Lovey was an electrician by trade and worked for years at Central Coast Leagues Club. In those days CCLC SLSCC’s longest sponsor) was used regularly by Surf Life Saving Central Coast and lovey would be there running around with a ladder fixing all the problems.

He was also a keen photographer, many houses in Avoca have some photo’s of his framed on their walls. I loved looking in his gallery in his garage.

We all have so many memories of our great Club and Lovey was a part of every one of them. Our deepest condolences go to Helen, Anthony (Lovey), Suzie and all the extended family who have known and loved him.

Helen, Anthony and Suzie would like to invite friends and family to celebrate Grahame’s life on Monday 21st February from 12.30pm at Avoca Beach Surf Life Saving Club.
