Central Coast’s Newcastle Permanent Junior Lifesavers of the Year Nominees

The Newcastle Permanent Junior Lifesaver of the Year announcement recognised 22 nominees from our 15 surf clubs in a special award ceremony.

The Central Coast surf clubs select two nominees to represent them in the prestigious award. The award is a great opportunity for clubs to recognize their young lifesavers and acknowledge their commitments to the Surf Life Saving movement and involvement in community volunteering.

Each candidate attends an interview during the school holidays where the nominees participate in various assessments and an interview. The assessments aim to get an understanding of their lifesaving skills and knowledge including CPR and resuscitation. The interview panel gauges their involvement in the Surf Life Saving movement and community volunteering along with their vision for the future of the organisation.

“One female and male are awarded the Newcastle Permanent Junior Lifesaver of the Year title. It is incredible the community spirit shown in all of the nominees. Whilst we only award two members with this prestigious award, it is clear the amazing job our clubs do in developing these young lifesavers to become great Australians. The future of the organisation is in safe hands if the quality of the JLOTY nominees is anything to go by.” Said SLSCC Director of Youth, Amy Fletcher.

The winners of the Central Coast Junior Lifesaver of the Year are Emily Rose of MacMasters Beach SLSC and Jett Avis of North Avoca SLSC. Both these young lifesavers showed exceptional lifesaving knowledge and community spirit in their interviews. We wish them all the best as they represent the Central Coast at the NSW Junior Lifesaver of the Year held in Narrabeen in April.
