Central Coast Clubs Represent

Central Coast athletes brought back a swag of medals and top 10 places at the NSW state championships held across the last two weekends.

Our juniors did well against the best in NSW at the opening weekend of the championships, performing particularly well in both the water and beach events.

The championships were split across two locations to work within Covid restrictions, with the water events held at Blacksmiths Beach and the beach events run at Redhead.

Highlights were three golds in the U10’s water, with Avoca’s Talia Tebb and The Lake’s Zach Mitchell winning the female and male board respectively and Zach Mitchell from Wamberal taking out the gold in the surf race.

Umina’s Amber-Skye Stevenson came away with multiple placings in the water events, with a silver in the U11’s female board race, bronze in the Ironwoman and bronze in the board rescue with teammate Marli Hoyland.

In the U12’s Will Tebb took out the board race and Terrigal’s Hayden McGregor had an outstanding performance, with gold medals in both the surf race and ironman event.

Highlights on the sand included Umina’s Anwar El-Kurdi in the U13’s, winning both the flags and beach sprint event and Noah Nakagawa from Wamberal taking home two placings in the U15’s, gold in the flags and a silver in the sprint.

Terrigal’s Emelyn Wheeler also performed well, winning the U17’s female flags and taking home a bronze in the beach sprint. Specialist flag competitor, Nicole Majsak from Ocean Beach surf club also brought home the gold in the U19 flags.

In the senior water events, multiple placings were had from the U15’s through to Opens, with the highlight being Terrigal’s show of strength in the U17’s, coming first and second in the ironman with young Ryan Green taking out the title and Jack Baker taking home the silver in a sprint finish to the line against young Nutrigrain’s  Next gen competitor Mitchell Morris from Newport.

Lifesaving events continue this weekend at Swansea with Central Coast masters competing on the 13th and 14th March. The State championships conclude with the surf boats on the 20th and 21st March.
