SLSCC Community Education

Our Community Education team hit the ground running this week with the start of their Beach Smart talks at Jilliby Public School.

The beach smart program is designed to communicate important beach safety lessons for life to school age children.

Last year, the SLSCC Community Education program reached over 15,000 school children through the beach smart and surf fun day programs.

The program offers a free inschool talk for primary age kids around how to stay safe at the beach and is offered to every school on the coast.

The team also run Surf Fun Days on the beach, teaching them important safety messages around rip awareness, where to swim and where to go for help. The students then get to learn some surf safety skills in the water.

SLSCC has been running a Community Education program since 1999 and has received several NSW awards for the service it delivers to schools.

“Its great to get back into schools again teaching kids” said Nicci Stephenson, SLSCC Surf Education Co-ordinator. “Summer is just around the corner and educating kids is an important part of our commitment as an organisation to keeping the communty safe at the beach.”
