Courses and Proficiencies

All courses can be found in the e-learning section of the SLSA members portal.

Age Managers Course: 

*This course is required to be completed by all members who take on the role of Age Manager*
This season all Age Managers need to complete the Age Managers Course online learning and be marked off by an Age Manager Mentor. 
Steps to complete:

  1. Complete  Age Manager Online Learning Modules
  2. Complete Child Safe Awareness Online Learning Modules
  3. Conduct a Nipper lesson under the supervision of Age Manager Mentor

JAC’s will need to send a list of names who have completed the online and practical sessions to eduationofficer@slscc.com.au.

SLSCC is currently seeking clarification on the practical component required for the Age Managers award. All questions regarding the Age Manager qualification can be forwarded to educationofficer@slscc.com.au

Child Safe Awareness Course

*This course is required to be completed by all members who require a working with children’s check*

The Child Safe Awareness Course assists the Surf Life Saving community to build awareness and education in the protection of children and young people from all forms of abuse and exploitation. The course aims to provide participants with:

  • an awareness of child abuse and child protection; an understanding of the Surf Life Saving Australia’s Member Protection Policy;
  • and the confidence to be able to take appropriate action when they become concerned for the safety of a child.

Steps to complete:

  1. Complete Child Safe Awareness Online Learning Modules

Foundation Coach

This participant resource has been developed by Surf Lifesaving Australia (SLSA) to guide the delivery of professional development for people wanting to become surf sports coaches in their club or branch. 

  1. Complete Online Learning Modules
  2. Coach a practical session 

Official Course

Officials who choose to fulfil specific officiating role/s and who work with participants (non-bronze proficient, Surf Rescue Certificate qualified or bronze proficient) who are actively competing in a club /  branch / state surf sport competition environments. Officiating roles may include: Marshall/Check-Marshall, Starter/Check-Starter, Recorder, Timekeeper and Finish Judge.

You have the option to complete with the Core Official Course or Technical Official Course.
The Core course provides a very basic overview of officiating and enables you to perform basic officiating roles.
The Technical Course enables you to perform roles such as check starter, Marshalling, Finish Judge etc. 

Steps to complete:

  1. Complete Online Learning in the members portal
  2. Attend a SLSCC carnival as an official and speak with Toni Jennar at Sign-On.
