U15’s Iron person

The first U14 to Masters carnival of the season kicked off at Terrigal last month, with Shelly Beach taking out the overall pointscore and Terrigal running a close second.

In a trial two-round format, competitors raced an M course, with the Under 14’s given a chance to compete in the same arena as the opens athletes for the first time.

“We were pleased with how the carnival went under the new format.” said SLSCC Director of Surf Sports, David Unger. “We are trialling including the Under 14’s in these Opens carnivals as part of our adherence to Covid restrictions and keeping numbers down at nippers carnivals.”

“The feedback has been positive, with the Under 14’s loving being part of the main stage events with the Open athletes.” he said.

“The program was modified on the day due to time constraints but overall it was well received. Its great to give Central Coast athletes a chance to get back in the water and into competition again after such a dissapointing end to last season.”

With a full program of carnivals including the Newcastle Permanent Iron Person Series and the Central Coast Board and Ski series coming up, there is much to look forward to in surf sports.
