Central Coast assessors have trained twenty new SMAR candidates in the last two months, providing two training courses over two weekends to lifesavers across the coast.

The Silver Medallion Aquatic Rescue course provides participants with the skills and knowledge to participate in
search and rescue operations.

One of the most physically challenging courses in Surf Life Saving, Smar is run across two consecutive days and involves learning how to rescue a submerged patient, accessing difficult areas and entering the water from height, learning search and rescue patterns and night operations.

Having qualified SMAR swimmers is an essential part of our aqautic rescue readiness and the candidates displayed a high degree of lifesaving ability in performing the tasks within the course.

“It was one of the best courses I have done” said Umina lifesaver and participant, Viki Dickinson. “The knowledge of the trainers and way the education team made us feel safe and capable was excellent. I really enjoyed the course and learning these skills.”

SLSCC will be looking to run another SMAR course at the beginning of next season and hopeful candidates need to contact their club to express their interest.
