2021 RWC candidates

This season the Rescue Water Craft (RWC) team had nine new recruits go through an intensive operators course. The course provides operators with the ability to operate in all conditions and provide support to beach patrols.

The RWC team operate outside the red the yellow flags and last season the team performed 110 rescues.

The RWC course raises the bar of lifesaving capabilities and challenges even the most experience Lifesavers. Throughout the course, you are taught a variety of skills and techniques which form a “toolkit”. Candidates then use their “toolkit” to complete challenging practical scenarios in various conditions. Each practical scenario is tailored towards each candidate’s abilities. At the end of the course, candidates are competent RWC operators who can operate along the coastline alone.

To recognise the achievements of all the candidates each season the Support Operations Team take the RWC course to Frazer Park for a SAREX exercise and familiarisation of the area. This year to conditions the SAREX was held at Norah Head Marine Rescue base which provided some inter-agency collaboration. While not a normal conclusion to the course it certainly was a memorable one.
