Beachgoers attendance was up at record levels this summer as Covid restrictions kept people closer to home, giving Central Coast lifesavers a busy few weeks on the beach.

With almost 650,000 visitors on our beaches over the summer holidays, clubs recorded over 450 rescues, 28,000 preventative actions and over 1000 first aids.

“It’s been a challenging holiday period for our lifesaving teams” said Director of Lifesaving, Simon Cusack. “With no lives lost between the flags, our patrolling members have done an incredible job keeping visitors safe.”

Surf Life Saving Central Coast delivered a wide spread beach safety campaign targeting Sydney visitors in preparation for the influx over the holiday season. Surf Safety leaflets were also dropped at all holiday parks across the coast to promote which beaches were patrolled.

There were several rescues of note, including mass rescues at North Avoca, Killcare and Shelly Beach as well as a rescue of 3 people from a sinking jetski at Box Head by a Central Coast RWC.

“The skills of all our operators have been put to the test this summer” said Simon Cusack. “It’s a testiment to the strength of our clubs that everyone has returned home safe from the beach these holidays.”
